Today I wanted to share with you my “run-out-the-door” quick face. I love to play with makeup (yes…like a 5 year old) so I’ve come up with one, very important, conclusion. The harder you try, the more you can tell. I know this really isn’t anything new, but it took my own trials and errors to fully grasp it. I finally figured out that the simpler I did my makeup, the prettier I felt. I am less inclined to constantly check my makeup when I have very little on. Now don’t get me wrong, I love a good smokey eye, colorful eye, dramatic lip….so on and so forth. But for everyday, this is sweet and simple. Plus it takes all of 5 minutes! So here it goes: 1. Apply tinted moisture. (avoid putting it on your neck….not necessary) 2. Fill in your brows. If you don’t already do this, START NOW! It makes a huge difference. 3. As thinly as possible, line your top lid from corner to corner. For the bottom, line only the outer corner. 4. One coat of mascara. 5. Brush on the blush. 5. Lipgloss! All done!
Everybody has their own opinion when it comes to what you MUST HAVE in your beauty bag (or in my case, beauty box). But here’s what I think are to most important items to have in your arsenal. For the FACE: Foundation Primer — This is probably the most expensive item in my box but it’s SO worth it! It gives you a smooth texture and fills in any creases or (eek!) wrinkles. A primer truly turns your face into a blank canvas! I like tinted moisturizer better than foundation because it’s light weight and I feel like it doesn’t seep into my pores. (Thanks to my friend, Ashley, for turning me on to this!) It’s also important, even if your prefer foundation, to find something with SPF in it. I’m pretty fair and I need all the protection I can get. But remember, we all need a little SPF no matter what your skin color may be! Blush Blush Blush! I love looking fresh and awake. (Especially in the days when LM wouldn’t sleep much!) A fresh, rosy cheek can brighten up your whole face. For the LIPS and EYES: You can have ALL the eyeliner in the world. Heaven knows I love to experiment with eyeliner! But the best item to have is mascara. And, in my opinion, one that enhances your eye color. I have green eyes, so a slight purple tint to my mascara really intensifies the color. (Check out Almay for a good reference on your color!) And last but not least, RED LIPS! I hardly ever wear this, it’s usually just some lip balm (with SPF, of course!), but I HAVE TO HAVE IT in my box! Just in case I feel like being fancy! Be sure if you do get a bold lip, be sure you get a liner to match. When doing a dramatic color, a liner will help prevent color bleed into those little lines around your lips. What’s in your bag that you HAVE TO HAVE?! ♥ Kelly (**no compensation was given for a review of any product. This is strictly the opinion of Kelly — TheNODramaMama**)
As you may have noticed, I’m pretty obsessed with doing my nails these days! So with the holiday fast approaching, I wanted to go with something other than red, white, and blue. I LOVE fireworks so I went with something that reminds me of them! (Especially since I’ll probably skip out on them this year…LM is only 5.5 months old and something tells me I may not want to take a baby to fireworks. Maybe next year!) For this DIY I went super simple. But here’s the original tutorial that gave me the idea. Make sure you get a top coat that is NOT quick drying. Pour out some of the top coat to make room for the glitter.
I apologize for the lapse in posts this weekend but we’ve been a wee bit busy! LM decided that our Friday was a tad too dull, so he decided to flip out of his bouncer so we could visit the doctor! But all is well, crisis averted! Then we went to the pool for the first time with our friends Ms. T and Little N…. LM was cranky from very little napping, since we had to make the unexpected trip to the doctor, so he decided to lounge for about 2 hours before he was ok with the water. (PS: Thanks so much to my mom for helping out with the fussies!) Then come Saturday, time to go teach and then it was Father’s day…. But I’m back! So here’s what’s in store for TheNODramaMama: ♥ I’ve decided on a rough blogging schedule.
- Monday – Makeover Monday
- Thursday – Thrifty Thursday
- Friday – “Saw It, PINNED It, Tried It”
- Sunday – inspiration Station
I am not good at doing hair…..PERIOD! But I’ve found ways to get around it with the help of my dear friend, the bobby pin! We’ve been friends since I was 3 (first dance recital)…we go WAAAY back, BFFEs! (anyway….) I also have THICK hair. Always have. And by THICK I mean THICK! The girl who does my hair blocks off extra time when she knows I’m coming in so she has plenty of time to do the highlights. So my first tip is a good pin VS. a bad pin. When you have finer hair, this isn’t as big of a deal. But, the more open the pin, the less likely it will hold your hair up for longer than 60 seconds. (This is just from experience…I’m no professional.) Now onto the DO! First make sure you’ve brushed the tangles n’ such out and your hair is laying as flat as possible. Start with a low pony and twist it around into a fairly tight bun. Holding the bun in place, pull the bottom up to the top. This will give it the “twist”. Now pin like crazy until you feel it’s secure. Pin back bangs if you want or anything that doesn’t get caught in the ponytail. And make it fancy if you like! Hope you feel beautiful today and every day…Happy Monday! ♥ Kelly
Here is yet another first for the ole’ blog….Makeover Monday! This will be a monthly feature in which you’ll find different makeup tips/tutorials or I may be trying out a new trend. This could be fashion, makeup, and/or hair related cuz seriously, what mama doesn’t wanna feel pretty?! So….for our first Makeover Monday I’m going with nails! I love having my nails painted but now that there’s a wee one, I’m trying to save money and you can’t really take a baby to a nail salon. So I’ve started doing them myself. Believe me, it takes practice! Because, unless you’re ambidextrous, there’s one hand that ALWAYS ends up looking like a 3 yr old did it. So don’t give up!!! Just break out the polish remover and try again! I’ve been perusing Pinterest and have seen a lot of fun nail trends and designs. Some more outrageous then others. (I mean people have works of art on their nails….it’s insane!) I decided to start out pretty tame and do just a POP of color by painting one nail a different color. I chose my pinky, just in case I didn’t like the effect, but you can choose any finger for your “POP”. Since it was Easter, I chose a really pretty mint color as my accent and a really neutral gray for the other. Spring is all about BRIGHT colors this year….neons to be specific….but I wasn’t quite ready for highlighter nails. If you are though, go for it! The more contrasting the better. Some other great spring combos: Gray/Lilac Beige/Citrus Navy/Coral Try it out and tell me what your favorite spring combos are!I thought I wasn’t going to like it or I was just going to look silly. Turns out, I LOVE IT! It feels fun and cutesy while not being too out there.
